Directed by Gilda Sheppard, ‘Since I Been Down’ showcases the harsh sentencing laws that incarcerated poor youths not for rehabilitation but for removal from society. Campaign goals include revisiting state sentencing laws and amplifying prisoner-initiated programs focused on academic achievement and emotional well-being, which can reduce recidivism rates and increase chances of a fulfilling life after release.
